As a statement “It is fine because I am not the one.” has become a common humor code in the weekend TV variety shows, the highly competitive society that we live in forces each individual to be different, or even special, from others in order to survive in there. Especially, entertainers work fiercely to attract the public’s attention and to maintain their popularities since the entertainment industry is complicated and unstable as same as the sine-cosine graph and the graph on the stock board.
However, here is an extraordinary example that demonstrates how a remarkable man who lives an ordinary life has a fatal effect on the society. We can interpret the enormous aftereffect of Yoo exercising the silent enlistment as this example. Although his discharge was nothing special for him as a serviceman, he received the nation-wide attention; therefore, every portal site covered their main pages with the news of his discharge. Furthermore, various journalists and magazine editors’ testimonies prove that he has his own unique capacity more than just specialty.
The Republic of Korea Army reserve sergeant, Yoo Seung-ho is just 22.(This passage is based on his discharge date, so now he is 23.) Now, the only task left for him is to concentrate on his work and not to look back. As he has a large capacity and potential, we can anticipate his new work road.
Finally, he got back. The end of eternal time seems to only exist in the 2013 Waiting for U calendar. However, last December 4th, Thursday, the day of Actor Yoo’s discharge came, and I even could not believe it when waiting the bus heading Hwa-cheon.

2014 <Let’s be happy> Fan meeting
Although he has 15-year-career as an actor, he has not been revealed his private life a lot. He, who even does not have any common SNS, does not have an attempt to overly show or fancily pack himself. In the entertainment industry, there is a common statement that no reply is worse than cyber bullying; however, ironically, his silent but honest work road has attracted people’s attention. As the public including his fans do not know a lot about him, the fans are curious about both his simple daily life and his point of view about the world. As the interviews that he took is the rare opportunity that his fans can understand who their celebrity is, his fans repeated watching and analyzing those interviews which were held less than five times in a year.
December 21st, 2014, the fan meeting <let’s be happy> itself was a special and thrilled time to the fans. After two and half years from the first fan meeting in 2012 summer, he stood up in front of the fans with his typical smile which seems to be shy but masculine. Through having a deep talk time with him, we discovered several information of him. He mentioned his episode of enlistment that nobody but he enjoyed. Unlike his generous appearance, we could imply that he was a charismatic assistant based on his word “children” when he called his replacements. Besides his military service episodes, Yoo said that he is a butler of two cats and a mania of lego blocks. It was a precious time since his fans cannot easily listen to his sincere and private stories with courteous humor sense(he got everything, right?) We can infer the actor Yoo’s strong but generous inner life from his own strict rule of being a good actor and his confession that now he acknowledged that he cannot regard an individual who is different from him as a wrong person. Yes, we can endlessly appreciate him for his acting ability, but, happily, he has more than that: his flawless appearance and his honorable inner-self. After <let’s be happy> fan meeting which was a pleasurable time that his fans felt more attracted to him, the actor Yoo’s official work road has been started.

Nongshim Sumi-chip Commercial
The chosen commercial from the intensive competition of casting discharged Yoo among several advertising companies became Sumi-chip of Nongshim company due to its unique concept and speedy contact to Yoo. Right after the articles that he became the model of the commercial, the reaction and anticipation of that commercial was amazingly explosive; moreover, it was a good tidings to the fans who have eagerly waited him for two years. Nongshim company, which wants to attract the new generation consumers, released a new flavor of potato chip called “Sumi-chip Honey Mustard flavor”. Some articles demonstrated that Nongshim emphasizes the main ingredient, potatoes, harvested in Korea and the attractiveness of the actor Yoo as a strength of the new chip to get women consumers’ attention. The articles increases the anticipation of the quality that the commercial has and makes people imagine how Yoo will fit into the commercial. And, now, the veil is uncovered.
“Why? Why did you eat any potatoes while I was not in here…”
“Do not eat any potatoes.”
These two sentences in the fifteen-second-commercial were powerful. They seemed like a charm to make us not eat other potato snacks ever. Therefore, it is a secret that we went to a supermarket or a convenient store right after watching that commercial to buy the chips…
With slicked-back hair and black suit, he has a flawless appearance even in a close-up scene. How can we believe that he just came out from the severe military service? This potato chips commercial is a starting point for Yoo to trace a genealogy of the good-looking model commercial since he, who just holds a chip in the commercial, was hot and masculine enough.

Grazia photo shoot
Even though he was crying when he stood up in front of the press in the discharging day, Yoo proved that he still had boyish aspects in his nature during his fan meeting. Furthermore, he surprised us in the Grazia magazine issued in January 20th, 2015 by showing his moderate hotness. With his deepened eye sight and natural pose, he reported that he is back which also reflected on the title of magazine “I’m BACK.”
The Grazia magazine is special in Yoo’s career since he now has different eye-sight, facial expression, and mood from any previous magazines. He has satisfied the fans who expected the magazine to show the transition of Yoo from a boy to a man. Thus, his fans have felt attracted to him whenever they read the magazine. In addition, the public, who is not a fan of him, has certainly recognized that the actor Yoo is back as a man. And I believe that I am not the only one who has joyous anticipation and curiosity of his limits because the vivid green fur coat and the unique-colored suits fit nicely to him in the Grazia magazine photos. Yoo is an actor who makes people have a good expectation on his work road while he is attractive and cool enough. I also have expected his another new challenge.

A music video teaser which demonstrates both fatally attractive appearance of an actor Yoo Seung-ho and mournful voice of a singer Naul was released. The name of Yoo covered all portal site like a flash, and even though the teaser was short as 44 seconds, the actor earned huge reaction due to his delicate sense facial expression and performance.
Feburary 5th, noon - finally releasing “You from the same time”
In the released music video, the audience can feel the great sorrow only from Yoo’s face without any speech. The monitor covered by his face, especially his eyes, was powerful enough to impress the audience. The technique called “Close-up to the close-up,” which is an extreme close-up to make the audience feel that they use a magnifying glass, increased the audience’s ability of concentration because the technique makes the audience focus on his eyes full of tears and the monitor itself. The simple clicking action cannot be stopped! I cannot stop to keep replaying it,” “I felt that the duration time is same as the movie interstella,” “A revolving door without exit,” “I watched the music video as I am absorbed into the black hole.” Among several reactions from netizens, the most common comment was that they felt doleful from his performance and saw a masculine Yoo Seoung-ho, not a boy anymore.
Supported by these enormous attention and reaction, the music video has more than a billion hits within 10 days after uploaded on Youtube. This was a flare that the “Oppa” Yoo Seung-ho came back with more deepened eye expression and mournful acting performance after his two-year-military service.

<Joseon Magician>
“Yoo Seung-ho’s comeback screen movie <Joseon Magician>.”
One movie website conducted a survey of 2015 Korean expected film. According to the survey, Joseon Magician is ranked on the seventh place because it is the first movie of the actor Yoo after his discharge. The short introduction of the film explains that it is a story of the best magicians in Joseon Dynasty who fall in dangerous love striving against their fates, and there are several points that can attract the audience.
There are several anticipations of this movie. Even though he still had a strong image of a sergeant in military service, he made a smart choice as he chose a romance film, not a masculine film. Moreover, the love story is toward a princess who has the highest social status. What an ardent love story it is! The film scenario has a mysterious and unique material since it is the first time that the actor Yoo is in charge of a magician in Joseon Dynasty. However, the magician is not “magician” so, we should not expect of a person who has a magic wand like Harry Potter. Moreover, we have a high expectation on Yoo’s deeply sensitive acting on this film as his character “Hwan-hee” loves the princess who goes to the Chung Dynasty, a historical name of China in Joseon Dynasty, and gives his life to save her. The visual appearances of Yoo who is an attractive and mysterious magician “Hwan-hee” and of another main character who has particularly small face with large eyes will make the synergy effect on this film. This effect is one of the causes that makes people have the high anticipation on this movie. Indeed, I hope that the movie “Joseon Magician” achieves a turning point for romance movie to revive in the movie industry since the action genre has dominated Korean screen industry for several years.
There are several interesting stories in the movie such as a blind Korean geisha who is an expert of acupuncture and eloquent speech and another magician who swears revenge on Hwan-hee. One journalist made a comment that “Love, magic, conspiracy, and fate”, there is nothing that I am not curious about.” And, I want to add one more comment on it, “The actor Yoo is in the middle of that curiosity.”
